W. Paul Sawyer, M.D., F.A.C.S. is the Director of Southeastern Research Group and also currently serves as President for Southeastern Urological Center. Dr. Sawyer received his medical degree in 1975 from the University of North Carolina Medical School at Chapel Hill. In 1982, he completed his internship and urological residency at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. Dr. Sawyer began practicing in 1982 with Southeastern Urological Center, P.A. in Tallahassee, Florida.
Dr. Sawyer is a past Chairman of the Medical Staff at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is board certified by the American Board of Urology. Dr. Sawyer has been a Clinical Assistant Professor with the College of Medicine at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida since 2003 and previously served on the clinical faculty with the College of Medicine at FSU.
In 1992, Dr. Sawyer was approach by a major pharmaceutical company to be one of the principal investigators on a clinical research trial which eventually helped bring one of the major urological drugs to the marketplace. Since that time, Dr. Sawyer, along with his partners and colleagues, has been conducting trials in clinical areas including prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, overactive bladder, hypogonadism, bladder cancer, and other areas of urology serving as principal investigator on a large number of our trials. Dr. Sawyer was instrumental in the founding of Southeastern Research Group, Inc., and is active in the business management as well as serving as one of our major principal investigators.
